Is this why people still love their takeaways?

There’s no doubt that people have really started to feel the pinch brought on by the cost of living crisis. Concerns about energy costs, inflation and war, are combining with strikes, and political and economic uncertainty to create a perfect storm of worry.

However, a takeaway actually helps as a coping strategy for people. More importance is now being placed on shared (or new) experiences that bring joy, and food is the perfect opportunity to help create them. That’s not to say that value isn’t still a key motivator. We all have to look carefully at our offers and pricing.

Value perception

A lot of consumers are ordering as they usually do to maintain a well-deserved treat from their favourite place or to take a break from cooking. Lower income customers are looking for “value” in the form of discounts and offers which may drive which restaurant they use. Wealthy customers seek “value” based on quality, taste, authentic ingredients and overall service.

Key takeouts

Setting up your own offers can be event-based, like around sports events or shared occasions, like bank holiday weekends.

More ways to attract new customers

  • People usually eat 3 times a day, so have you considered other occasions such as breakfast?
  • Aim for 5 star reviews with every order and take time to respond to feedback, good and bad
  • Ensure you have quality photos to accompany your menu - it’s a big driver of restaurant choice and orders
